Written & Directed By: Mikey Alfred

Cinematography: Ayinde Anderson

Cast: Ryder McLaughlin, Nico Hiraga, Aramis Hudson, Vince Vaughn, Miranda Cosgrove, Angus Cloud, Gillian Jacobs, Blake Anderson

A kid must decide between choosing the future his father wants and following his dream of becoming a pro skater.

————————————————————————

This film unfortunately feels sort of like a b-movie version of the film MID 90S or a more independent version of it, as it feels similar but being not quite as sharp. as there are no major names in the cast, except for Vince Vaughn playing the main characters, strong willed, father, and he makes his presence felt And gives the strongest performance.

The majority of the film is plotless. It’s more of a becoming of age comedy drama, where we watch our main character who wants to be a pro skater through the ins and outs of a few weeks into his life and the various situations he finds himself in.

As in most coming-of-age films, he finds a romance and faces alienation or the breaking up of friendships as they mature and change and head off in a different directions, though there’s a little actual plotter story a bunch of stuff happens that help to define the characters

Though the characters being kind of unlikable, juvenile and bland, which one is sure is the main point of the film. As we all are at that time but here it doesn’t come off as fun or poignant. It comes off more as annoying more like someone looking back at that age, and trying to be hip with the current generation as it feels a little Just out of date for some reason. So that there feels like no one in particular to root for or even look forward to.

What the film does have is a good soundtrack and greats and photography that make you sit through the film and study the shots and notice how well film they are really your patience will be tested with this film and how much you actually get into either the characters or your wonder to see what’s gonna happen next

As the film isn’t quite as polished or confident as mid 90s and has a more open ambiguous ending, that seems a bit more downtrodden and then positive, but hold out hope strives for a DIY attitude and tone.

As it seeks to be authentic, it just constantly seems a bit off brand and a little more manufactured rather than telling it’s truth or being autobiographical or someone’s passion project

Watching it it just feels way too familiar even in different clothing and locations. You’re going to have that I’ve seen this before, but maybe it works for a new generation and will speak to them.

The film is worth watching if you don’t have too many expectations or expect that much from me it’s perfectly fine entertainment. Give the film a chance, though you can’t say you weren’t warned beforehand

DRUGSTORE JUNE (2024)

Edited & Directed By: Nicholaus Goossen

Written By: Nicholas Goosen and Esther Povitsky

Cinematography: Sherri Kauk

Cast: Esther Povitsky, Bobby Lee, Beverly D’Angelo, Bill Burr, James Remar, Haley Joel Osmet, Miranda Cosgrove, Al Mardrigal, Jackie Sandler, Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams, Danielle “Bhad Barbie” Bragoli

After the pharmacy in her small town is robbed, a girl who still lives at home with her parents takes matters into her own hands to solve the crime, while at the same time trying to get over her ex-boyfriend and become more of an adult.

I am a fan of star Esther Povitsky, and her brand of comedy where she usually plays lovesick, narcissistic, airheaded young women, basically insufferable. who are trying to keep up with all of the latest trends while also being hyped seem a little off when it comes to the reality of their situations

This is what her character is like in this film She is also obsessed and stalking her ex who has moved on and it’s been years has a family that seems to be tired of her antics though never throw her out.

Her character here seems to find meaning and a distraction from all of her problems by trying to investigate a robbery and find out who robbed her place of business and all the characters she seems to run into and her homegrown investigation.

The film is filled with many small roles and cameos by recognizable comedians, and they try to add to the comedic atmosphere, even though strangely most of them are playing straight-laced and serious throughout as this film is more  Povitsky’s showcase. It remains colorful throughout.

This is more of a character-based comedy film that is more silly and ridiculous than hilarious though it worked for me. This is a film. One might look at it as a guilty pleasure, but can understand if it’s not for everyone if you’re just looking for a film to have fun with and a good time, give this a try

As some will obviously accuse the film of just being a bunch of loose skits, revolving around the main character can see that throughout the character does have some growth which makes it more than just a throwaway sketch movie. It’s definitely more of a homegrown project that slowly starts to impress.

It also never wears out. It’s welcome.

MOTHER OF THE BRIDE (2024)

Directed By: Mark Waters

Written By: Robin Bernheim

Cinematography: Ed Wu

Editor: Travis Sittard

Cast: Brooke Shields, Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove, Sean Teale, Chad Michael Murray, Rachael Harris, Michael McDonald, Wilson Cruz, Tasneek Roc, Dalip Sondhi

Lana’s daughter Emma returns from London and announces that she’s getting married next month. Things become more complicated when Lana learns that the man who stole Emma’s heart is the son of the man who broke her years ago.

This is pretty much romance novel, a romantic comedy for an older audience as it shows. It’s never too late to find love.

This tale starts out seeming like it’s for a younger audience. It slowly reveals itself to be more of a romance for the parents or the Older Crowd.

It’s nice to see many familiar faces amongst the cast who are clearly enjoying themselves. so that you can’t help but feel comfortable with the cast and characters. The film still feels a bit slight but then again I’m not the audience for this film.

follow the formula of romantic comedies, seemingly to be aimed at older characters. I don’t know if it’s because feels like the air of Romantic comedy came and went and while there is an audience for it, it’s only the audience that was a fan of those movies in the 90s and 2000s, who are around the age of the characters in this movie?

Watching this film, you’re not going to see this for the filmmaking or the script you know what exactly is going to happen so you just sit there and wait for it or see how it’s going to happen on this beautiful foreign island with beautiful characters surrounded by nothing but opulence and money so that it is a fantasy come true.

The characters might seem ungrateful and annoying as mishaps happen throughout. As this is a film nothing offensive really happens and it feels like a more cinematic hallmark movie. As it has various cultures throughout and representation of most.

That is all positivity and hope and the problems that are brought up. Seems so minor that you wonder why the characters are making mountains out of molehills.

this is a pretty simple film and I believe you will enjoy it as long as you go with it and you will know if you’re a fan just by either watching the trailer or reading the synopsis because what you see is what you get with this movie.

Directed by Mark Waters, who also made the original MEAN GIRLS movie. He knows the territory. He knows the genre and he makes everything pretty and everyone looks amazing.
