A realtor is pulled back into the life he left behind after his former partner-in-crime resurfaces with an ominous message. With his crime-lord brother also on his trail, he must confront his past and the history he never fully buried.

————————————————————————

this oddly feels like this could’ve been a sequel to the big hit only because again a gang of hitman, a love story and disposable action that is quite visual and admirable from a stunt and fight choreography standard but feels a bit much about nothing.

It feels like a lighter version of the film. NOBODY that packs a much lighter punch. as this is more of a jab.

As all the actors are likeable, you just wish that there was a stronger script because everything here feels like you’ve seen it 100 times before and it just feels so basic that even at under 90 minutes it feels a bit long like everyone is going through the motions The only thing that keeps you is lead actor Ke Huy Quan

As he is so small and has such a gentle nature, but seeing him be a bad ass is quite watchable, but also seeing him struggle with the two sides of himself, the dangerous side and the good side is quite remarkable

Everything else about the film though is a little bit tired or familiar even Marshawn Lynch usually is a scene stealer and most films while he’s good and humorous here it still feels like unremarkable in this film

Same with Ariana Debose, a great actress and Oscar winning actress where you have to wonder why is she here? Was it just the paycheck because she is very enticing in this film and seems to be having fun but she feels better than the material or this film so that it feels like she’s slumming and you wanna see her and better you wanna see key and better You wanna see better than what they have.

you know when the film has multiple screen writers that it’s most likely gonna be a little bit confusing and it’s identity and probably water down.

It feels like the film is afraid to ever slow down and its pace as every shot must be busy or they have the camera move like a 90s MTV style film with an electronic music soundtrack to keep the bass moving at times you wish it would slow down With its constant push you more and more away from the film and it’s believability

What’s worse is that I am an advocate for seeing for films being seen on the big screen as that seems to be what they when you’re making one. That’s what they’re made for but this film feels like it has blockbuster money, but the script seems more accustomed to a streaming platform and the big screen.

At least you’re paying for the service and this is what they offer you rather than you going. Spending hard earned money on this and the quality is not that great even though maybe if you’re an action junkie, this might be up your alley, but in the end, even though it is an action film it also seems like it’s more comedic moments rather than the action at times , and it doesn’t seem to be able to have it.

It’s not a horrible film. It’s just a film that seems like it more just gets by instead of trying or attempting to be better and there’s nothing wrong with that being satisfied with who you are but let us know that in the audience beforehand instead of making it seem like you have promise .

Well at least  Ke Huy Quan has a cute moment of a reunion of THE GOONIES having played in the film as data . Here he isso close with his mentor and boss at the realty company played by Sean Astin, who played Mikey in THE GOONIES. As well as them both appearing in the film ENCINO MAN together

THE VAGRANT (1992)

Directed By: Chris Walas

Written By: Richard Jefferies

Cinematography: John J. Connor and Jack Wallner

Editor: Jay Ignaszewski

Cast: Bill Paxton, Michael Ironside, Marshall Bell, Mitzi Kapture, Colleen Camp, Patrika Darbo, Marc McClure, Stuart Pankin, Teddy Wilson

The Vagrant tells the story of Graham Krackowski, who moves into his new home only to be terrorized by an unruly vagrant that lives across the street in an abandon lot. What begins as simply an inconvenience to him, escalates into an all out war of head games, wit, and eventually murder.

The film mixes hard and comedy and the humor though dark is funny and parts, but it never quite land. It always feels like it’s missing a beat.

The performances are believable and the material you expect a bit more zaniness and can see why this film does have a cult following and it’s fans but personally, it never quite comes alive nor as fun as the premise it presents

It seems to be headed for better and you expect more especially with such a cast.

The film does seem to treat every female. He comes across as attracted to him, and they are all secondary by nature or props, then actual characters.

Bill Paxton’s character change of looks later in the film. It also shows the range of Mr. Paxton who is the only reason I saw this movie for.

As I knowingly used to pass the box for this movie and video stores in my youth, all the time always thought it would be more run-of-the-mill and basic one can appreciate that at times it tries to be different and subvert the audience

The film is a low budget movie that tries and you want to like it. it seems to work against itself never quite finding that right mixture as it feels more comedic when it wants to be horrific, and it feels more horrific when it wants to be comedic finding its groove.

It should be noted that it’s sort of the few times. Michael Ironside has been in an intentional comedy.

The film was directed by Chris Walas, a special effects artist, and whose previous film was THE FLY II. Which was a guilty pleasure in my teens and was hoping this film would end up being a diamond in the rough as this seems to be the last film that Chris Wallace has directed so far it ends up disappointing because the potential had more than anything

BEAVIS & BUTTHEAD DO THE UNIVERSE (2022)

Directed by: Albert Calleros, Geoffrey Johnson and John Rice

Written By: Mike Judge, Lew Morton, Ian Maxtone-Graham, Guy Maxtone-Graham and Ruben Martinez

Story By: Mike Judge, Ian Maxtone-Graham and Guy Maxtone-Graham

Editor: Robert James Ashe, Phil Davis and Mike Mendez

Cast: (Voices) Mike Judge, Gary Cole, Andrea Savage, Nat Faxon, Chi McBride, Carlos Alazraqui, Toby Huss, Tig Notaro, Jimmy O. Yang, Brian Huskey, Stephen Root

After a “creative” judge sentences them to space camp, a black hole sends our adolescent heroes 24 years into the modern future where the duo misuse iPhones, embark on a quest to score, and become targets of the Deep State.

I wasn’t expecting this film to be such a disappointment, but then again, look at the material.

Growing up, I was like most teenagers. I was a fan of the show Beavis and Butthead and I even thought they’re movie Beavis and Butthead to America who is actually hilarious and strangely the film does still stand up.

This is a welcome return of the characters and their universe of sorts ends up being so disappointing because it feels exactly what it is a sequel and it’s a sequel and every true meaning of the word it’s bigger where we’re talking a story about Space exploration time, travel and different dimensions in worlds it feels very unnecessary

It’s still funny and has some great brilliant moments here and there, but I can’t tell if I grew out of the humor or if the material just isn’t that strong but even at barely 90 minutes it feels too long and it doesn’t feel firm at all and it has a coherent story still feels like there’s a lot of things thrown at the wall to see what will stick

Don’t give me wrong, it’s not bad or horrible. It’s just disappointing considering the miracle that was the first film. No one expected it to be as funny or actually, as good as it was here. This is the movie. I think most people expected the first time around, only you get your hopes up for a sequel that you hope will be at least equal to the first one, and here is where you get the disappointment.

If you’re a fan of Die Hard, you will be happy with the film, if you’re new to this phenomenon, or the characters, this might not be the place to start, and you will find the film maybe more OK. Then again, it might be that we have grown out of that demographic and it still seems to be aiming for that same teenage demographic, even after all these years.

IT’S WHAT’S INSIDE (2024)

Written, Directed & Edited By: Gregory Jardin

Cinematography: Kevin Fletcher

Cast: Brittany O’Grady, James Morosini, Gavin Leatherwood, Nina Bloomgarden, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Reina Hardesty, Devon Terrell, David Thompson, Madison Davenport

A group of friends gather for a pre-wedding party that descends into an existential nightmare when an estranged friend arrives with a mysterious game that awakens long-hidden secrets, desires and grudges.

It feels like the film is too in love with its cleverness just like the characters are. Though most are unlikable and insufferable.

It earns its stripes as it is definitely a dark comedy. That is too cruel at times. That tries to justify itself. Though it truly lives up to its title.

At times the film feels like the recent release Bodies Bodies Bodies only here you at least get characters rather than types.

The film is inventive and stylistic, but you can’t admire it because it’s too busy moving on to the next dazzling piece.

In this film so much happens too fast that the film seems afraid to rest as everything must be done and can never be allowed to sit stop and think especially the audience throwing you off balance so that you truly never know what will happen next

It also doesn’t help that the film and the script seem to want most of the characters to shine. There isn’t truly that much room in there.

You get the feeling that maybe the filmmakers or film doesn’t trust itself by standing still that there must be a bunch of distractions so the few questions. Which makes the film come across like a game trying to play with the audience.

Essentially, it feels like a group of actors getting together and scratching the material into a comedy group exercise or comedy group trying to make a film to serve all their sensibilities.

Luckily, the film does get better as it goes along as you gain some knowledge about the situation, the characters, and some of its rules and plays the questioning of identity that doesn’t get that deep but tries to have fun test itself into deeper waters once we get to know them and their true colors start to show

It’s a film to enjoy as long as you don’t think too deeply about it.

KINDA PREGNANT (2025)

Directed By: Tyler Spindel

Written By: Amy Schumer and Julie Paiva

Cinematography: Stuart Dryburgh

Editor: Tom Costain and J.J. Titone

Cast: Amy Schumer, Will Forte, Brianne Howey, Jillian Bell, Damon Wayans Jr., Lizzie Broadway, Urzilla Carlson, Chris Geere, Joel David Moore, Molly Sims

When Lainy’s plan to settle down and start a family falls apart, she puts on a fake baby bump, tells a lie, and accidentally falls for her dream guy.

Not shocked by the quality of the film it comes from Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison Productions.

It maintains that kind of goofy stupid humor of most happy Madison productions. That seems more devoted to throwing everything you can at the audience to see what sticks and satisfies them.

So that you know going into these movies Hamlet or anything close to that though what I can give this film is that it’s simply entertaining. It’s not good but it’s not that horrible and the time passes there’s nothing that memorable about it but again you stay entertaining if you’re a fan of Amy Schumer this is the first leading role in a movie that she’s had in a while, especially in a romantic comedy

The film is not insulting and the cast does what is required of them. Though if you’re not into Adam Sandler movies or his type of comedies, I would say definitely skip as this tends to go for not necessarily the gross-out but more wacky as of course his daughter and wife have cameo roles.

Actress Urzilla Carlson gets the more over-the-top supporting role that probably in the past would’ve gone to Rebel Wilson, who would’ve either played that role or the lead.

The one thing I can say that is likable about this film is it’s nice to see a female lead comedy that can get nasty when it needs to, but still here plays pretty much tame.

The film is overly predictable, but at least it doesn’t insult your intelligence and everybody seems like they’re thrown at them and they seem like they generally are having fun and like one another so it is a pleasant viewing experience.

It’s not original nor good it’s just more of a comfort movie than anything that offers very few surprises.

DRUGSTORE JUNE (2024)

Edited & Directed By: Nicholaus Goossen

Written By: Nicholas Goosen and Esther Povitsky

Cinematography: Sherri Kauk

Cast: Esther Povitsky, Bobby Lee, Beverly D’Angelo, Bill Burr, James Remar, Haley Joel Osmet, Miranda Cosgrove, Al Mardrigal, Jackie Sandler, Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams, Danielle “Bhad Barbie” Bragoli

After the pharmacy in her small town is robbed, a girl who still lives at home with her parents takes matters into her own hands to solve the crime, while at the same time trying to get over her ex-boyfriend and become more of an adult.

I am a fan of star Esther Povitsky, and her brand of comedy where she usually plays lovesick, narcissistic, airheaded young women, basically insufferable. who are trying to keep up with all of the latest trends while also being hyped seem a little off when it comes to the reality of their situations

This is what her character is like in this film She is also obsessed and stalking her ex who has moved on and it’s been years has a family that seems to be tired of her antics though never throw her out.

Her character here seems to find meaning and a distraction from all of her problems by trying to investigate a robbery and find out who robbed her place of business and all the characters she seems to run into and her homegrown investigation.

The film is filled with many small roles and cameos by recognizable comedians, and they try to add to the comedic atmosphere, even though strangely most of them are playing straight-laced and serious throughout as this film is more  Povitsky’s showcase. It remains colorful throughout.

This is more of a character-based comedy film that is more silly and ridiculous than hilarious though it worked for me. This is a film. One might look at it as a guilty pleasure, but can understand if it’s not for everyone if you’re just looking for a film to have fun with and a good time, give this a try

As some will obviously accuse the film of just being a bunch of loose skits, revolving around the main character can see that throughout the character does have some growth which makes it more than just a throwaway sketch movie. It’s definitely more of a homegrown project that slowly starts to impress.

It also never wears out. It’s welcome.

SLACKERS (2001)

Directed By: Dewey Nicks

Written By: David H. Steinberg

Cinematography: James R. Bagdonas

Editor: Tara Timpone

Cast: Devon Sawa, Jaime King, Jason Schwartzman, Jason Segel, Michael McDonald, Michael C. Maronna, Laura Prepon, Jim Rash, Nat Faxon, Retta, Joe Flaherty, Leigh Taylor Young

Dave, Sam and Jeff are about to graduate from Holden University with Honors in lying, cheating and scheming. The three roommates have proudly scammed their way through the last four years of college and now, during the final exams, these big-men-on-campus are about to be busted by the most unlikely dude in school.

There was once a time when I worked at a video store a Tower video to be exact down in Greenwich Village and my friend Curtis would usually be working the same schedule so that every Saturday night we would get off work and then go see a movie. It was usually us trading who chose the movie, but we generally wanted to see, the same movies and I can’t say that every week there were great prospects. This one I chose this movie so I did see this actually in theaters.

It seems to have everything going for Jason Segel  of Freaks and Geeks, and Devon Sawa who seemed to be in a lot of teen films at the time Laura Prepon from THAT  70’S SHOW, wasn’t a fan of the show but I always liked her delivery and Schwartzman is the reason for me to see this movie thoroughly enjoyed him and RUSHMORE

This film is definitely a romantic comedy that is more misogynistic and in the 1980s would’ve been filled with T & A, an ironic statement the film is from elderly actress Mamie Van Duren. There is plenty of sexual talk even suggested scenes of sex.  After all, it’s supposed to be a college comedy.

The film starts as a con man hustle college comedy before I’m pretty much becoming a romantic comedy.

This is where the film loses the pizzazz that it had going for it. Which is truly the only thing that sets it apart from many others. The film has strangely a few cameos from people you wouldn’t expect at the time to be in the film, which only makes it more surreal and feel like part of the fantasy.

Seems to be another film in which they make the nice guy or nerd more the villain than the typical male college student who seems more insincere here, Devon’s character who is supposed to be helping Jason Schwartzman due to blackmail actually the girl that he is supposed to be helping him get Jason Schwartzman‘s character just keeps exhibiting more and more strange and creepy behavior throughout, which shows to a certain extent he doesn’t seem to really care about Presley’s character maybe what she represents to him.

I wish I could say that this film is all-around terrible it has some funny scenes, but they are few and far between and maybe not worth going through 90 minutes of this movie is a film that could perfectly be abridged easily.

It also, strangely for a major release comes across as looking a little rough around the edges more than it should. Maybe it’s supposed to represent the scrappy nature of college students, though this kind of looks like a very nice college that these kids could afford, especially with all the scams that they seem to be running.

Tries, but the characters that really stand out are the ones played by Jason Schwartzman and Jason Segel. So much that you just wish that they could be in a better and funnier film.

KRAZY HOUSE (2024)

Written & Directed By: Steffan Haars & Flip Ban Der Kuil

Cinematography: Joris Kerbosch

Editor: Rene Van Henegouwen and Flip Ban Der Kuil

Cast: Nick Frost, Alicia Silverstone, Jan Bijvoet, Gaite Jansen, Walt Klink, Kevin Connolly,

Chris Peters, Matti Stooker

Set in the 1990s, Krazy House follows religious homemaker Bernie and his sitcom family. When Russian workers in Bernie’s house turn out to be wanted criminals, Bernie has to man up and save his imprisoned family, while slowly going crazy.

This film plays like an extended and demented adult swim short film. Only trying to be as cynical and nasty as it could be well also being anti-religious.

At first, it comes across as a satire of living inside a kind of fantasy sitcom world. Before getting darker and darker a bunch of criminals are introduced into this fantasy and start to literally wreck everything..

This causes the father character head of the family to Sometimes flash into a reality that is much slicker, but also much more violent and cruel.

The lead glimpses into the main character’s fractured psyche. then can easily figure out what will happen when he finally breaks more often.

Though the film is 90 minutes, it takes so long to get there. It feels like punishment for the audience, as well as the characters finally have the bad guys get their comeuppance.

It still manages his surprise at times it would help if we cared enough about the characters once eight finally starts to move.

This film just feels very low rent, even though the filmmakers have made a cult comedy series of movies with the new kids in gross Norwegian exploit of comedies.

They also made another horror film starring Nick Frost, who stars. The other film GET AWAY Fairs, is much better as it is a bit more conventional and traditional with a twist. Nick Frost co-wrote that film. This film feels more experimental and inspired to try an expand on an idea and material and not quite being successful at it

BOY KILLS WORLD (2024)

Directed By: Moritz Mohr

Written By: Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers

Story By: Moritz Mohr and Arend Remmers

Cinematography: Peter Matjasko

Editor: Lucien Barnard

Cast: Bill Skarsgard, Jessica Rothe. Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Isiah Mustafa, Famke Janssen, Brett Gelman, Sharito Copley, Michelle Dockery

Boy, a mayhem machine with a hilarious inner voice, has been trained from childhood by his mentor to assassinate the bloodthirsty Hilda Van Der Koy and avenge his family’s murder. Guided by his little sister’s mischievous spirit, Boy uncovers one stunning revelation after another as he barrels toward Hilda, leading to a shocking, carnage-crazed finale.

Though not quite a b-movie, this film would go well on a double feature with a hobo with a shotgun. As both films have their own extremes, but both feel more like a comic book or a video game watching them,  this one is less exploited and filled with more action and violence. However, the film does create quite a crazy world and builds somewhat from there.

Even if it still always feels a little bit like a Third World country.

Ultimately, a revenge tale in a totalitarian land far off from any reality, the film combines all types of action, hands, hand weapons, and knives, and Wiley does have plenty of comedy and adrenaline impact action that is literally balls to the wall that can become ridiculous. It’s a film where so much keeps happening, and there are so many quick cuts that you kind of get used to it and it constantly tries to up the auntie though not quite to its best  advantage

It has quite an impressive cast, and Bill Skarsgård does his all to be an action hero, who literally is mute but is voiced by the narrator of his favorite video game, who gives voice to his thoughts, even though he can’t really talk. Though he comes more as an action character here than he did in JOHN WICK 4

It also costars Andrew Koji, who is almost unrecognizable, and his role, though is quite hilarious, handles his action scenes as usual.

It has the man Yayan Ruhian from THE RAID movies and he proves as usual to be just as dangerous and badass here as he was in those films and it’s just amazing in the action sequences. Even if more in a supporting role.

The film is inspired. I heard the soundtrack before I saw the film which hyped me up for the movie unfortunately it doesn’t quite match.

this is a movie that is more about style and feels a bit long as one can appreciate them building the story in the beginning, but it didn’t need to take that long to get to the real heart of the film and what the audience came for just a bit too long it is worth your time

The action sequences are breathtaking and quite impressive as it is the film’s bread and butter. it’s quite imaginative and very inspired.

Though this might be a case where all that you wanted, and it’s not measuring up or being as magical as you had hoped or thought it  would be

This is definitely a film for those action junkies out there who will probably love it, though others might find it a little monotonous at times as it keeps seeking to impress the target audience

JACKPOT! (2024)

Directed By: Paul Feig

Written By: Rob Yescombe

Cinematography: John Schwartzman

Editor: Brent White

Cast: Awkwafina, John Cena, Simu Liu, Sam Asghari, Ayden Mayeri, Becky Ann Baker, Michael Hitchcock, Leslie David Baker, Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly), Seann William Scott, Dolly De Leon

In the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot.

This film feels like a live-action version of Michael Jackson’s SPEED DEMON, a music video only here with more details. Which should tell you how random and cartoonish this movie is throughout.

If you can get past the ridiculous setup, you find yourself in a film that is never boring and has entertaining popcorn fare.

That seems to throw some action and comedy into each new scene that comes along.

Truthfully, you will probably forget most of this film after you finish watching it.

a film directed by noted director Paul Feig who keeps things moving, but offers many scenes that would be memorable if they were just a bit stronger at heart.

The cast is strong as both Awkwafina and John Cena seem to be Hulu channel original stars as each seems to have a movie or two come out on the channel each year and are usually a buddy comedy. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chris Evans, and Ryan Reynolds seem to be Netflix original stars to mix and match throughout their productions. It seems the scripts and stories come later than the big names they can get to be attached.

This is the same kind of high-concept 1980s script that comes across as basic and could have made it to theaters but might leave many disappointed if they had to pay to see it. Even though what you see is what you get from the trailers alone.

Aquafina while funny gives a good performance. It feels like the role could’ve been played in any way it doesn’t give her room to do anything special or new.

John Cena always seems enthusiastic in his performances and his hair usually tells you all you need to know about the characters he plays and where it might be going.

Ayden Mayri is a stand-out amongst the supporting cast. As she is hilarious, deadly, and believable.

The comedic cameos throughout don’t hurt the film, but they don’t help much except for the audience to take them in and be done with them, just as fast as they appear.

What helps the film coast along is in a pleasurable way is that the action sequences are so good while also managing to be organically funny.

Grade: C+
